Hi,

I have several Google Nest PROTECT Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarm detectors that I need to connect to Fire alarm bell, any suggestions on how to proceed?

Regards.

It is not possible with Nest Protects. They are designed to only work with each other and other Google Nest products.

What a gyp. How hard is it to build an output relay - even a contact that could connect to a separate relay base as per other brands - this way in the event of an alarm the emergency services can automatically be called / integration to fire/security panels

I bought an extra Nest Protect and wired up a really simple microphone + arduino, like this:

https://www.circuitbasics.com/how-to-use-microphones-on-the-arduino/

And mounted them side-by-side. Yes, it is a bit hacky.

I guess you could also just solder directly to the speaker output of the Nest, but, yeah, that involves opening it up.

Kinda size overkill with the UNO, I went for a MKR version since I also wanted to be notified via email.

Hey folks,

Please let me know if you are still having any concerns or questions from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Thanks,

Hi,

Unfortunately I had to replace all of my Nest PROTECT Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarm detectors with cheaper file detectors, in order to satisfy fire department inspection and pass.

It would be great to have a relay module that could connect the nest detectors via wire to an external fire bell, which is commonly used in new buildings.

Regards,
Adam

Hello AdamRouhi,

Thanks for getting back to us. We appreciate your interest however, we don't have any news to share about applying this feature through the Nest app or Google Home app. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take it as feedback. I'd suggest you send feedback about your concern using this form to let the Google Engineering team know about your concern. While they won't respond directly back to you, this is the best way to let them know about this. Please let me know if you have other questions or concerns as I will be locking this after 24 hours. Feel free to start a new thread and we'll be happy to help.

Best,

Emerson
