Major Expiration Date Issue (only 3 years of 10 left) on 6 brand new devices

I just purchased 6 brand new 10-year 2nd Gen Google Nest Protect devices (July 2024).  The Manufacture date is Aug 01, 2017 and need to be replaced Aug 2027 (only 3 years of a 10-year life span.  7 years old!  I'm about to return everything but wanted to see if there is a solution and/or warn consumers that this is truly unacceptable.

I would bring it back to the store you purchased them from, they should either refund or replace the units for you.

Thanks @ashepherson, of course I can return them as I indicated in my post. the real issue is that replacing them can potentially put me in the same situation since there is no way to determine the expiration date until you open the packaging.  I opted for a refund as this seems like this will continue to be a challenge for this product line unless buying direct has some sort of guarantee.

Generally google has policies in place to ensure their distrubution channels and partners have "fresh" stock for this product line.  Truth is most smoke detectors use a small bit of radioactive material that starts to degrade upon manufacture, so this would be an issue with any product.  I will say that my nest protects had build dates on the outside of the packaging when I purchased them.

If you opt to try again, possibly open the new ones right at the store, but do yourself a favor and look up the reports made on these devices at saferproducts.gov or browse this forum before making an informed decision if Nest Protect can safely protect your home. Also note that the Nest Protect does not and will not work in Google Home now or at any point in the forseeable future.

I just received 3 Nest Protects directly from Google.  They were manufactured in November, 2022 - putting them already 20% into their lifetime.  I feel that either I should get newly-manufactured units or a 20% refund on these expensive units.;

Google store support is refunding my purchase.  They sent RMAs and shipping labels to return the 3 units.

Now I'm looking for a place to buy recently-manufactured Nest Protects.  I checked both Best Buy and The Home Depot - and they don't keep an in-store stock, at least not in m area.

(Not a google employee. User with 4 detectors over 2 homes.) I would recommend skimming through these forums and saferproducts.gov to be sure the Nest Protect meetsvyour needs for that cost. Be aware that they DO NOT work in Google Home and there is no published plan that Google will ever add them. I personally can not morally recommend the product to anyone.
