It looks like Google is doing everything they can to keep consumers from talking about the miserable support on the Nest vs Google Home apps and the Nest Protect as they keep closing discussion threads. I wanted to share one thing I found that even Google Support doesn't seem to tell you to do.
This was tested on Google Fiber using Google Wifi Mesh Routers on iOS 17.0.3
*I do not have Home/Away enabled on my phone.*
If you are home and connected to your WiFi the notifications about smoke or CO alarms will not show up on your phone. I'm guessing this is because the Protect system knows I'm connected to my home WiFi network so I have to be home and will hear the alarm. I turned my WiFi off completly, lit a match under the smoke detector and within 35-40 seconds I got the alert on my phone that the smoke alarm was going off. I've only tested it once but it worked. I don't know if this only works with Google Fiber/Google Routers or if your phone is connected to the same WiFi network as the Nest Protect but it seems that if you're actually not home, the alerts will come to your phone. I hope this helps!

Interesting! Google is not my ISP nor do I have any of their network hardware, so I will need to try what you have carried out to see if I get the same result. Are you per chance using one or more Nest Protects for HOME/AWAY, or in Google speak "Presence Sensing".

Hi everyone,
@jbg117, we appreciate your efforts in posting and explaining your concern here in the Community; however, you should be able to receive the notification regardless if you're at home or away. Try restarting your Nest Protect and Wi-Fi network to refresh their connections. You may also reinstall your Nest app to make sure you have the updated version.
I appreciate your response, justsam.
Regards,
Emerson
