Hi-- I purchased the Nest Protect for my new home in 2023. Less than two years later, one of the devices is beeping constantly, the app says their is smoke and to evacuate, and then says it has failed and needs to be replaced. We have unhooked it, but it continues to beep (and cant be shut off on the appt). Such an expensive smoke detector should not need replacing so soon unless defective. I would like a free replacement for the defective device.

Hi lellelnnon,
Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry that you're having troubles with the sensor of your Nest Protect. I understand how frustrating this can be. I'm here to help.
If Google Nest Protect sounds a smoke alarm when there's no smoke, or if it chirps and your Nest app says there’s a sensor failure, it means that it needs your attention. In some cases, this occurs because dust got into the smoke chamber or steam has set it off. You need to replace it if the sensor has failed. If your Protect is still under warranty, you may file a claim at g.co/warrantyclaim.
For your concern, please try the below steps:
During an alarm, press the large button on the front of the Nest Protect that sensed the smoke or CO.
You won’t be able to silence Nest Protect if smoke is above levels specified by law. This is an industry rule that all alarms follow.
2nd gen Nest Protect lets you silence alarms with the Nest app. When Nest Protect sounds an alarm for smoke or CO, it can send an alert to your phone. You can hush the alarm from the alert.
The alert includes the type of event (smoke or CO) and its location.
Note: If you have a Nest Cam in the same home, the alert can include a snapshot from your camera. If you have more than one camera in your home, swipe left and right to cycle through each one.
You can only use App Silence when you're within a few feet of the Nest Protect that originally sounded the alarm.
Make sure you've checked conditions in the room before silencing.
This lets Nest Protect know you’re about to silence it.
Important: If you’re not close enough to your Protect or if the smoke level is too high, the button should turn red. This indicates that the alarm can’t be silenced with the Nest app.
Tap and hold the button for about 2 seconds until the app tells you the alarm has been silenced.
Note: If the smoke level is too high, you won't be able to silence the alarm.
Let me know how it goes and keep me posted.
Regards,
Kevin
