Dear Google/Nest team,
Discontinuing Nest Protect puts lives at risk. I am one of the people directly affected.
Because of hypersensitive hearing, I went without a smoke alarm for more than a week — until I found Nest Protect. It has been the only alarm that works for me, because it delivers reliability, a true zero false-alarm rate, and thoughtful design. Even a professional fire safety inspector once told me Nest Protect was the top of the line. That is not an opinion — it is expert judgment.
By discontinuing it, Google has eliminated the best-in-class life-safety device on the market. The fact that Google purchased the Nest brand rather than creating it makes this even more disappointing — you acquired a proven lifesaving product only to let it die.
This is more than a poor business decision. It leaves real people without safe alternatives. Lives are now at risk.
I urge you to reconsider, or at the very least, explain why such a critical safety product is being pulled from the market.
