Is it possible to deactivate the smoke alarm and leave the heat sensor on?
As far as i'm aware, smoke sensors shouldn't be used in kitchens, only heat sensors should be but naturally if installing Nest Protect throughout the rest of the house, i want the same product/brand in the kitchen too.
Can anybody advise before i sink a lot of money into buying 8 sensors?

It is not possible to do this. Browse through this forum before buying. I would not recommend buying Nest Protects. Support for them is extremely limited and Google is not putting any effort into software development to migrate these detectors into Google Home. They are still running in the legacy Nest app. (Google bought Nest a decade ago.)
Google also has not addressed safety issues such as false alarms, failure to alarm, overheating batteries, etc.

That's what I thought but online literature about the product is limited. I'll have to look for a different product.
Thank you
