Nest protect failures/false alarms

Adding to the growing reports of issues (it's only started in the last few weeks) of 1 (out of 2) of my nest protects giving a "heads up there's smoke in the bedroom" when there isn't, and then almost immediately seems to clear.

Yes the device is near a slightly open window and it's been raining *a lot* today - it's been there for almost 2 years and never been this bad!

It's happened 3 times today, the first two didn't trigger anything in the app, but that 3rd one did, which then cleared.

Can Google provide some clarity on why this seems to have recently started happening and how to fix?

I see you can disable the "heads up" but this kind of defeats the point of having a smart alarm.

I faced the same issue and this thing went off at night 11.30PM causing me to loose sleep.

Hi there!

Thanks for posting in the community.
I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been experiencing some issues with your Nest Protect. I understand that it’s been giving you some false alarms about smoke detection in a room where there was no smoke. No worries, help is here.

In order to give you the correct help, I need some extra information. Here are some questions for you:

  • Was there any sudden change in humidity right before the alarm went off?
  • How long did the alarm go off?
  • What software version runs on the Nest Protect?
  • What is the model of your Nest Protect? Is it 1st or 2nd generation?
  • What was the color of the light when you received the alarm?

In the meantime, you can try the next troubleshooting steps:

  1. Start a Safety Checkup:
    1. Press the Nest Button on a Protect. The blue light should turn on, and it will speak to you.
    2. When it says “Press to test”, press the button a second time, and the process will start.
  2. Clean the Nest Protect to make sure it is working on the correct conditions.

You can check the following articles for further information:Learn about Safety Checkup and Clean your Nest products

I will be waiting for your response.

Regards,

Daniel.
