Nest protect won’t connect to wifi - just says “hi”

My nest protect is offline and won’t connect to wifi.   I replaced batteries and reset the unit.   When I press and hold the button now it just says “hi”

Seems to be resolved by removing nest protect from my account and re adding it as a new product
