Nest protect won't factory reset

I have a generation 2 Nest Protect. I have been trying to perform a factory reset on the device, but after following the instructions (holding the center button and releasing during the serial number call out), the device won't even begin the countdown but will instantly abort the procedure every time. Please don't post the link to the reset procedure. I tried that dozens of times. FYI: I even bought the Energizer Ultimate Lithium Batteries for 20 Euros and it won't work anyway. Please help! Thanks!

Same thing happened to me, I just kept holding the button and it worked.

And exactly the same is happening, if I let go of the button: See video here.

Meanwhile the App is giving me this error message and tells me to factory reset the device 🫠
