Pathlight stopped working on ”expired” nest protect

A decade ago, when I purchased 5 nest protect 2, Amazon was indeed announcing the CO detector would work for 10 years but it was not really a concern for us as we had no fossil fuel heater or boiler.

Over the last 10 years, luckily, we only had a few smoke alarms but none dued to a real fire. Over the same period, we have made a nightly use of the pathlight. Since the CO detector has expired, the pathlight has stopped working. Is there any way to turn it back on ? Has the smoke detector also stopped working ?

thank you,

Fantec

Hi Fantec,

Thanks for posting in the community! I understand your 2nd gen Nest Protect's Pathlight stopped working because the CO detector has expired. Fortunately, you only had a few smoke alarms and not a real fire. I'm glad to help you with this!

Once your 2nd gen Nest Protect has expired, you are no longer protected from smoke or carbon monoxide if you don't replace it.

Regarding your 2nd gen Nest Protect's Pathlight, I have some steps for you to try:

  1. Perform a Safety Check-Up. Please check out the following article for your reference: Learn about Safety Check-Up
  2. Replace your 2nd gen Nest Protect batteries. Visit the following link to learn more about it: Replace Nest Protect's batteries

Please keep me posted. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,
Juan

Can you answer the original question about path light functionality?  New smoke detectors don’t have the path light feature and we’d like to keep using our expired devices for the nightlight feature only.
