I have 8 battery version Nest Protects all linked up together and covering not only my own home but also two other flats that I own/rent out in the same converted house - very useful as a landlord to be able to check/test that all NPs are working and in order. I have been - and remain - very happy, in general terms, with the Nest Protects. However, the two Protects in my own flat have reached their 10th birthdays today/expired, and the self-congratulatory PR issued by Google re no future production of Protects talks about a future product partner in First Alert, which is great if you are in the USA and Canada. But what about the rest of the world where First Alert has no presence or is distributing, I mean the rest of the world does exist? I cannot believe I am the only non-US/Canada Protect customer in this position? Do any other UK customers have any ideas or views here? And what does Google Nest actually say for itself in the UK (not a lot by the sounds of it!)?? EH

I'm in the same boat, with nest protect and thermostat.
This serves as a deterrent to buying Google hardware in future.
V disappointed.

Me too - I wasn't even aware of this - shocking!
Wednesday
I’m also in the same boat. Smoke alarms are one of the few “smart” devices that make sense to me, it trying to find an alternative that offers wired and battery versions that work together in the UK seems impossible. Add to that that I don’t want to buy from a brand (google now included) that is going to drop support before the end of the product life. I also have a nest thermostat that google is dropping support for, so I’m likely to drop out of the google echo system entirely.
