My Protect devices started flashing yellow not green during the nighttime “promise”.
I checked the Nest app. When I log in to my Google account, it asks me if Nest should be allowed to access my Home info as if it weren’t already set up. Then it can’t connect and instead I get this error: “There was a problem connecting to the Nest Service. Try again in a few minutes”. Happening for days.
In the Google Home app I can still access cameras fine.

More information:
- I see the same login problem on multiple iPhones, even after deleting and reinstalling the app, after cycling the power on the phone, on WiFi and on LTE, and I also see it on both the Safari and Chrome desktop browser.
- so the problem is not due to my WiFi environment, a particular phone, the native app, or even a particular browser version.
- as near as I can tell, all my Protects show the yellow ring that ever had the promise feature enabled. And if I push the button to initiate the network test, that test never finishes. So the problem is not due to one device malfunctioning and losing connectivity.
- my conclusion: The problem is in the Nest account system, or their linkage to Google account systems. But it’s not in the newer pure Google account systems, because the Google Home app works and connects to non-Protect products fine.
Given that the problem is not due to my phone, computer, network, or Protect devices, it can only be fixed by Nest since it’s likely a problem in their servers. This is unfortunate since it requires convincing them this is true.
