I have purchased a few smoke alarms brand new in the box and sealed. When does warranty start and is there an expected life of any sensors if the product was manufactured in 2018. Does the life expectancy start once it starts getting used or the moment its manufactured?

Warranty starts on the date of purchase and life expectancy starts on the date of manufacture that is printed on the bottom of the device.
