1 out 3 Nest Thermostat is not working

Hello, I own three Nest Thermostats, and currently, one of them is displaying a blinking red light. Despite being charged and initially turning on, it eventually goes blank with the red light blinking. The malfunctioning thermostat was originally installed in my son's room, which is located above the garage and is separate from the main house.

To troubleshoot, I swapped the malfunctioning thermostat with one from the house, and it worked fine in my son's room. However, when I attempted to use the problematic thermostat in different wall mounts downstairs and upstairs, it failed to function. Since the other two thermostats work perfectly in various locations, it seems unlikely that there is a wiring issue, right? I would appreciate any assistance.

Hello swilliams51,

I'm sorry to hear about the issue with your Nest Thermostat. I appreciate that you've taken the initiative to troubleshoot the problem. Based on your description, it does seem less likely to be a wiring issue since the other two thermostats work fine in various locations.

The blinking red light on the Nest Thermostat usually indicates a power issue or a low battery. Since you mentioned that the problematic thermostat was initially turning on and then going blank with the red light blinking, it might be worth checking the power source and connections.

To isolate:

  • Ensure that the thermostat is getting a stable power supply. Make sure the wires are securely connected and there are no loose connections.
  • Gather the power readouts in the Technical Info settings and check for any wiring reports or message codes in the Equipment settings.
  • Do they have a C-wire installed?
  • How long did you leave it in charge?

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,
Mark
