Hi - I recently moved into a home with a 2nd gen learning thermostat. The thermostat is registered to the account of the former occupants. I have tried resetting the thermostat to factory settings, but this did not work. I chatted with Google support about this issue and was instructed to look for Settings>Reset> Account. There is no "Account" in their reset menu (only "restart," "network," and "all settings"--I have tried each of those). They then told me that they could do nothing, meaning my thermostat could be controlled by someone who does not live here, and I could not override it. They kept telling me I could manually adjust the thermostat, but I am now constantly changing it. I find it odd that if I am physically where the thermostat is, I can do nothing to disassociate an account from it. Google Support advised me to buy a new thermostat. I don't own this place--it's not an option. I am pretty disappointed in how that exchange went.
I found a thread online that suggested I turn the dial to "settings" and then press in until the thermostat restarts, and then go to settings>reset>account, but "Account" did not magically appear in the menu once I manually restarted.
Surely, I am not the first person to encounter this. Surely, Google has a solution for this challenge...yes? Anyone have any suggestions for me? I am all ears. I

Factory resetting the thermostat removes all settings and removes the account. You're saying that's not happening when you go to Settings > Reset > All Settings?

Welp - I’d tried that several times before posting but did so one more time before replying to you and, naturally, it worked this time. Soooo…thanks? Ha! We can close this thread.
