3rd Nest Generation Thermostat resealed or not?

Trojaboy

Hello,

I ordered a “new” unopened google nest thermostat from a third party on eBay, but noticed the box had a few bumps, which could be caused by transport.. however I also noticed this arrow and numbers and cant find what they mean. Lastly, the plastic cover over devise has some sort of dust on it.

In the end, I am simply looking for authenticity.

It's almost impossible for us to say with 100% certainty just by looking at photos. It might be worth watching genuine unboxing videos so you can compare. Good example: https://youtu.be/8H6oKM2HHoo

Ultimately, if you're in any doubt, you can also contact the Google Nest support team.

  1. Go to Contact Us - Google Nest Help
  2. Select "Thermostats", type a brief description of the issue, then click "Next".
  3. Click "Other", then click "Next step" until you see the contact options.
  4. Choose to get a call or call or chat with the team as available in your country.

@Trojaboy

Was the box sealed when you received it? That piece of plastic is part of the box seal, and if you didn't remove it, then someone else did, and I wouldn't consider it "unopened." They usually come shrink-wrapped and with that tap intact. If you watch the video David linked, you'll see at 1:29 what I mean about the tab.

Purchasing anything on eBay is a roll of the dice. Sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose.

Do like @David_K suggested.
