3rd generation - blinking red light

dbookstein

Hi!  I am a newbie to Nest - purchased a home that has Nests.

One of them stopped working recently.  The display is blank and there is a blinking red light at the top.

I removed it from the wall and started to remove the screws, but then stopped.

Suggestions?

Thank you!

Hello dbookstein,

I'm sorry for the trouble this may have caused you especially as a new Nest user— let's see what's going on.

A few questions: did you notice any wiring report or message code on your Nest Thermostat before it shuts down? Is C wire connected to it? Also, have you tried plugging the thermostat into a working outlet? If not, please give these steps a try:

  1. Charge the Nest Thermostat display via USB cable for an hour.
  2. Put it back to the base and see if it turns on.
  3. If it does, go to Settings > Technical Info > Power. Gather the readouts.
  4. Check for any potential wiring report under settings > Equipment.
  5. If you have the same type of Nest Thermostat, try swapping the displays and see the changes.

Looking forward for your response.

Thanks,

Mark
