- green aa G
- blue as C
- yellow as Y1
- orange as *OB

Can you also please send me the make and model of your current thermostat? thanks

Yes you should be able to use any of the Nest thermostats with your setup. Some connections on the Nest wire plate are named differently depending on the particular Nest model, for example there is no R for the Nest learning thermostat, but Rh and Rc, and you would plug into Rh. The rest should be the same for you.

Oh thank you so much. Here’s more info on old thermostat: White rodgers - 1F78

Ok thanks. Just to make sure, you don’t have a heat pump in your hvac system, correct?

6 wire system, black and orange wires are not used, there was small jumper from rh to rc on original thermostat,  from my understanding nest system does this automatically, not sure what issue was, went back to original thermostat and everything working now.

Hello. I need some help with setting up my Google Nest thermostat, please. I put all the wires as instructed but the heat pump does not start. The heat starts but the outside unit does not. When I switch back to the old one, everything starts. Can anyone help? I attached te old and the new wiring set up. ThanksIMG_5971.jpgIMG_5976.jpg

What about this one? It's a heat pump. I can't figure out what to do with the brown wire. It was manufactured 5/22 if that helps.

Current thermostat is Honeywell TH5220D

Hello folks,

Thanks for taking the time to let us know about your inquiries. I'd be happy to take a look into this.

@Mihai1, I see that you wired it correctly to your Nest Thermostat. To make sure it was properly configured, please try resetting the thermostat to default settings and make sure to choose the appropriate wires connected to its base during the set-up. Once finished, call for heat and cooling and keep us posted on how it goes.

@nickdonellan, To check your system's compatibility, could you also share a photo of your thermostat's wiring with us? I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Mark

Hi nickdonellan,

Thank you for sharing the photo of your thermostat's wiring. It appears to be compatible with Nest Thermostats. If you have a heat pump system, the brown wire should go to the O/B terminal for the Nest.

Feel free to let us know if you have more questions in mind.

Regards,

Mark

I tried that already and when I turned it on "cool" the vents were blowing heat

what about the white wire

Hello there,

Great troubleshooting so far, @nickdonellan. I'm sorry, but the label is blocked by the wire. Could you confirm what's on the label behind it? Could you also share a photo of your Nest Thermostat's wiring with us? Also, I found an article with some troubleshooting steps; let us know if that helps.

Thanks,

Mark

I will write out a diagram when I get home from work and post it here. Thanks

Hi there,

Hi nickdonellan,

Thanks for sharing the diagram. Big help! Do you have a second-stage cooling system? If yes, the Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Generation would be compatible with your system. Let us know if you have more questions in mind.

Mark,
Mark

I will try this weekend and let you know. I put the old one back because I was unable to diagnose the problem. I will keep you posted. Thank you for your time and expertise.

I'm not sure what a second stage colony system is...

*cooling

I have a heat pump. Will that work?

So it's only going to work if I have a second stage cooling system? How can I check to see if I have that?

I finally figured it out. I had my heat pump o/b wire set to b bc the wire was brown. Changed it to "o" and now it finally works. I was sick the first time I tried to install it. Just didn't have the patience to troubleshoot it, I guess. Thanks for all your help!
