A/C blows hot air

Hello! My name is Ben and I recently purchased a google nest learning thermostat (3rd gen) and am having trouble with my AC blowing hot air after finishing setup. I checked the google/nest website to ensure my system is compatible. Installing the plate and attaching the thermostat is easy. Setup is straightforward and fairly easy to understand. I didn’t get a picture of the wiring setup for the best thermostat seeing as I was troubleshooting in a house that was 90 degrees. I do remember which wires I put where:

W2 (white) - placed in W auxiliary

G (green) - placed in G

C (blue) - placed in C

Y (yellow) - placed in Y1

RC (brown maybe?) - placed in RC

I feel I am missing some information about my system but I wanted to see if anyone knew of a sure fire fix before I dived into pump etc details!

Hi folks,

@Alprimus3183, thanks for the follow-up, and I'm sorry for the delayed response.

Can you move the orange wire from the W1 terminal to the O/B terminal? First, turn off the power to your HVAC system, then remove your thermostat display. Second, remove the orange wire from the W1 terminal and move it to the O/B terminal, then place the thermostat display back on its base. Third, turn back on the power to your HVAC system. Lastly, set up your Nest Learning Thermostat again by following the instructions on the screen.

Let me know how that goes.

Best regards,

Zoe

Hi Alprimus3183,

Thanks for posting here in the Community forum, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation. Let me take a look at this for you.

Where did you connect the orange thermostat wire to the Nest Learning Thermostat base? And do you know whether your system is conventional or a heat pump? If you are not sure, you can simply provide us with a photo of your HVAC system's control board, where the other end of the thermostat is connected, and a photo of your Nest Learning Thermostat wiring.

I'll look forward to your response.

I appreciate your help, @JamesSun

Best,

Zoe

Yes the outside unit says it’s a heat pump split unit. Setup had me put the orange wire in the W1 connector and the white wire in the W2 connector

Hi there,

Thanks for the information. It looks like your Nest Learning Thermostat is not properly configured. Bumping my question above, can you send us a photo of your HVAC system's control board, where the other end of the thermostat is connected, and a photo of your Nest Learning Thermostat wiring so we can better check the wiring configuration?

Regards,

Zoe

I don’t have a pic of the wiring because I had to put the old thermostat back on due to it being over 90 degrees in the house
