AC cycles on and off several times before coming on full

My AC frequently turns on and off several times over the course of about 10 seconds before it finally comes on and stays on.  We've had the AC repairman out to our house several times over the summer trying to diagnose it, and he finally tried putting in a different thermostat for a week and that fixed it.  Any idea why my Nest causes this cycling but another thermostat doesn't?

Hi bwill6,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Nest Thermostat. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • How is your Nest Thermostat wired?
  • What is the power reading of your Nest Thermostat? You can find this info by going to Settings > Technical Info > Power.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward

  • It's a Nest Learning Thermostat.  If that doesn't answer your question, can you tell me where to find out what type it is?
  • I attached a pic of the wiring.
  • I attached a pic of the power reading menuIMG_2685.JPG

Hey, thanks for checking in.  I filled out the form Edward linked to and got an email from the Customer Care Team with a link to troubleshooting.  It suggested that running a C wire or getting a Nest Power Connector may fix the problem.  Right now I'm looking to see if running a C wire is something I can do myself since that'd be the cheapest solution.
