I recently changed phones ( Galaxy S8 plus to Galaxy S20 plus) and ever since, the AWAY function on our Learning Thermostat only works sometimes. At least once and sometimes twice a week, I will go to a nearby city 20 miles away. The last time I went, I noticed the AWAY function did come on. But it never went back to HOME when I came home. Other times, I can go to the city and it stays on HOME the whole time. About half the time, it works the way it was intended to work. What might be a reason our Google Nest Thermostat doesn't realize when we are not home or doesn't realize we came home? Btw, I am the only one with the app on my phone.

Make sure you have set phone permissions to allow the app (Nest? Home?) to use location services always, not just when using the app.

I have the Galaxy S20 and the settings you need to set/verify in your phone are:
Settings/Apps/Nest:
Location permission set to 'Allow all the time'.
Turn OFF the option 'Remove permissions if app isn't used'.
Then in Settings/Battery/Background usage limits, Add the Nest app to the section of 'Never sleeping apps'.

Thanks! Will try this and let you know how it works the next time I leave the house and return 🙂

I tried the suggestion above and it still didn't help. Today I traveled 20 miles and when I looked at the Nest app, it still said HOME. I had to change it to AWAY manually. It always seems to recognize when I come home but not when I leave. Are there any other settings I should look at? Since it worked perfectly with my Samsung Galaxy 8+, I really do not think it is the app itself. This has only started happening since I switched to the Galaxy 20+.
