Abuse

hi,

I live with my abusive husband that I am trying to divorce and get away from. He bought a nest so that he can lock me out. He set the temperature of the house to 68. We have an old 1920 house with original windows and many of them are cracked. My 2 girls and I are freezing. I have a high paid lawyer and he can’t do anything. Is anyone else being abused in their homes by the google nest?  Why is there a passcode? How is this ok? Can google help me to get on? I borrowed space heaters from my community but he unplugs then and puts them on the porch and tells the girls that if they plug it back in he will district then.
all these new technology things are just designed to allow people to abuse people.
many thoughts?

Hi,

You won't be able to access the thermostat if a passcode has been put onto it due to the security features and I expect you don't have an account linked up to the controls, so Google probably can't help you there either. Please get yourself and your girls to safety

Remove the thermostat and replace. This option is likely cheaper than a lawyer and quick to do.

I'm recovering from back surgery and living with family who is doing this with cooling. Honestly hope they see this. It's sad how many people I'm having to keep in the loop about their abuse for my own protection. I hope you got your kids out. Anyone who does that to children is trash. I honestly hope Google steps up or gets sued for this safety issue.

Hello folks,

I'm sorry to hear about the situation, and I know it has been a while, but I wanted to ensure that everything was taken care of.

I appreciate your input, @Lsimmons and @gm99.

@Freestyle11 and @Lithia, I totally understand what you're going through. Unlinking the Nest Thermostat from the existing account is the best option for you to link it to your own accounts for full access. To do this, a manual reset is needed. Please follow these steps below:

  1. Pull the thermostat display from its base.
  2. Connect the display to a personal computer (Windows, macOS, or ChromeOS) via USB cable.
  3. Check if the computer recognizes the thermostat device plugged in.
  4. Search and open the folder named "TechnicalInfo.PLIST".

Keep me posted once the file is visible and on what personal computer you're using so we can move on to the next step.

Regards,
Mark
