Ac won’t stay on. Says restarting in…

My AC keeps turning on and off and the thermostat keeps saying "starts in..." and then it counts down 2 mins. Then it repeats but won't stay on.bought new nest thermostat and still happening. Gas heat, forced air, 4 wires( b,w,r, g)

To better understand the situation, I'd like to ask a few questions:

• What kind of Nest thermostat do you have?
• When was the last time your AC worked properly?
