Why is the heat on?!?

Misty_D

We just bought a house that has a nest thermostat in it. We have noticed that each morning about 5:30ish the heat comes on downstairs when we have the air on. I have the air set to 66° and it’s not below that threshold when it does this. The heat will run for 10 minutes or so and then the air comes back on. By this point it’s normally 72° or warmer.  We haven’t noticed it doing it upstairs. This morning the heat has been in for 30 minutes or more and it’s 75° in here. Help!

Hi Himmeljuk,

Thanks for reaching out. I understand that your Nest thermostat activates the heating each morning around 5:30. I understand it can be frustrating when your Nest thermostat activates unexpectedly, No worries,  I'm here to help!

Very likely, your Nest thermostat has an auto schedule set up. This is why it turns on around 5:30. To check this, you can visit the link for Temperature schedules for the Nest Learning Thermostat." There, you'll see how to add or remove auto schedules on your Nest Thermostat.

I hope this helps! And let me know if you have any other questions.

Regards,

Manuel

I have the

Nest Thermostat - Smart Programmable Wi-Fi Thermostat and I don’t see any of this in my app.

Just the plain nest thermostat.

Misty_D. At this point, recommend you take a picture of your thermostat and the wiring inside when the face is removed.  The CS can make the determination on the type of/or model. Good luck.

Hi Misty_D,

Thanks for your answers! Great! Since you have a Nest Thermostat 2020, here's how to check your schedule using the Google Home app:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap on your thermostat icon.
  3. Tap on the thermostat settings.
  4. Then, under "Schedules," you'll see if your thermostat is set to ECO or Comfort at 5:30 AM.
  5. From there, you can also remove any unwanted schedules.

I hope this helps!

Regards,

Manuel

There are no scheduled set. Thank you for explaining that. I think the thermometer may be broken.

Hi Misty_D

Thanks for trying the steps! Just to confirm, do you have any other family members who might have access to your Nest thermostat? It's possible someone else may have set a schedule on a different phone.

I will be awaiting your response.

Regards,

Manuel
