Adding a second home with Nest thermostst

I purchased a second thermostat for a remote cabin location and while trying to install the new thermostat I lost connection to the Nest in my other property. I wasn't able to install the second thermostat because the Nest app wouldn't allow the new thermostat to be installed on a two wire system.

During the process of migrating the Nest account to Google Home I lost access to the Nest thermostat at my original home. How do I revert back to gain access to my operating Nest thermostat there?

Hi Nod1,

Thanks for posting ― let's get this sorted out.

A few questions: what Nest Thermostat do you have? Check this link to know what thermostat you have. Also, what troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

Best,

Thanks Mel,

Our first Nest thermostat was installed at our halfway house by an electrician 2018 so I do not have a record of the model number. It controls baseboard heat and has worked well until when I lost connection with it in December when I tried to install a new Nest at another location.

The new location is off the grid on a small island so getting a tech there is very difficult. The new Nest thermostat was bought from Google in November with ID # 2A241J3DB2R4YD

The thermostat I tried to replace was a 24V two wire. I looked online for a 2-wire Nest schematic but couldn't find one. I hooked the Nest up anyway and started the setup online. That required me to migrate my halfway house Nest account to Google. In that process we lost connection to that thermostat. Carrying on the app wouldn't allow the new Nest to be  on a 2-wire system and recommended a Nest power connector which I subsequently purchased but haven't installed. Its wiring diagram surprisingly shows only 2 wires going to the Nest thermostat.

Our goal is to first restore our online access to the old Nest in our halfway house. Then get our island Nest operating. Can you tell me what steps I should take?

Thanks Nod

Yes Jenelyn, I still need help resolving the two problems but I am out of the country currently and believe I will have to be on site with the thermostats to make any progress.

I solved the 2nd home sign-in problem by putting the Nest thermostat on my spouses smart phone. We now have remote access to that thermostat.

The 1st home installation is still a problem. While I can see this account I can't connect to the Nest thermostat. While onsite I tried to reboot the thermostat and start again but this is a first generation learning thermostat and has no barcode on the back or any specific info. Unless I can ID that thermostat my next move would be to replace the Nest and start again. Very frustrating as no one in the area seems to have Nest knowledge like the electrician who installed the original.
