Adding nest to HomeKit

Why can’t I add my nest thermostat to HomeKit? I have the latest firmware and my Apple TV supports thread

Because Nest Thermostats are not compatible with HomeKit. I've also not seen Google make any announcements as regards to thermostats specifically with Matter and/or Thread support.
