After firm are updating nothing

Jjbanks

I installed a Nest Learning thermostat.  I was able to connect it to my wifi.  It then went into a firmware update. Days later I want to add it to my app, but I see nothing on the display.  Google support says to reset it, but removing AAA batteries is not possible as it does not have a battery compartment. The other reset mode requires the display to be working.

suggestions, please.

This sounds like you have a Nest Learning Thermostat and possibly you have no C wire in use.  And, while it was attempting a software update the power died.  Perform a hard reboot by pressing and holding the display about 30-seconds the Google “G” shows up.  If this does not happen, you might need to manually charge up the battery. to do this, you will need to take the display off the back plate, turn it over, locate the micro USB connector and plug it into a charger for overnight to fully charge it up. Then reattach your display to the back plate, and it should boot up.

Thank you, Ken. I will give your suggestion a try tomorrow, when I can get back to the house.  Unfortunately, I left the control unit off the wall and will likely need to charge it up first using the micro USB.  I’ll let you know how it goes. Thanks for the detailed response.

Charging the battery is still not great.  It got better after I wiped the contacts. I’ll do the some more at the next cycle.

Hello there,

Great troubleshooting so far, Jerry. In the meantime, please keep observing your thermostat's behavior and keep us posted on how it goes.

Regards,

Mark

Thank you to all of you for being concerned.  I thought I responded to this awhile back.  Perhaps I was not clear so ...

I left the thermostat off the wall for several days and then fully charged it.  After this charge/discharge cycle, it started working.  Right now it is working well.   I am hoping that the learning function is adequately disabled as I do not want it deciding when to turn on and off.  But at this point it is doing what I need.

Again, Thanks for the continued follow up but there is not need for further troubleshooting.
