Another user with an e72 error

I just installed a Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Gen. and am getting an e72 error.

I used the compatibility checker before purchasing and it showed that the thermostat is compatible with my system:

Here is a photo of my previous thermostat:

Here is the Nest wiring:

(It isn't completely clear in this picture, but the ground wire and common wire are connected to the connect lugs.)

I was able to perform the setup (i.e., the thermostat screen appears and is functional). The heat and cooling tests failed before the e72 error was displayed. I think the fan test passed, but I can't get back to the test screen now that the error is displayed.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Sachelis,

Thanks for reaching out to us, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation. I want to check if you are still in need of any help. If so, please answer the following:

  1. What's the make and model of your HVAC equipment?
  2. How many wires are there?
  3. How are the wires labeled?
  4. Are the power breakers on, and are you receiving power to your home?
  5. Is the display seated? (Does it properly lock itself into the base?)
  6. Are all the wires firmly seated into the terminals? (With no loose or exposed wires)
  7. Does the thermostat charge with a USB cable?

Also, gather the power readings of Battery, VOC, VIN, and lIN under Settings > Technical Info > Power.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Zoe

Hi, Zoe.

To your questions:

  1. I have new an Amana furnace and heat pump. I don't know the model numbers.
  2. My original post shows the number of wires.
  3. My original post shows the who the wires are labeled.
  4. The power is on.
  5. The display is seated.
  6. The wires are firmly seated.
  7. Yes.

Additionally, if I replace the Nest thermostat with my previous thermostat, the HVAC works. With the Next I get the previously mentioned error.

Thanks.

Man, this process is redundant. Boilerplate responses from "community specialists" asking for information that was already provided aren't helpful. Thanks anyway.

Hey Sachelis,

Since we've isolated that this is caused by your Nest Learning Thermostat itself, I’m sharing a link to a form for you to fill out so we can look into this further. Once we receive your feedback, we can continue to discuss your options and what we should do next.

Regards,

Zoe
