App temperature reading is wildly wrong

We recently changed Wi-Fi supplier and therefore router. The Nest thermostat was offline until yesterday when I linked the new router to the thermostat - which is working just fine but the temp readings on both my iPhone and iPad are way too high and are not responding to instructions. Any advice please?

Hi RHV1,

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry to hear that your Nest thermostat is displaying incorrect temperatures and isn't responding to the instructions. I'd be happy to help!

Since you're experiencing the incorrect temperature readings on both your iPhone and iPad, I'd like to gather some more information:

  • What type of Nest thermostat do you have? Here’s a helpful article about how to identify your thermostat model.
  • When was the thermostat installed?
  • Where is the thermostat located (room and wall or stand)?
  • Do you have other active Nest thermostats? If so, are they experiencing the same inconvenience?
  • What type of HVAC system do you have?
  • Have you made any recent adjustments to your HVAC system?

In the meantime, I'd appreciate it if you could check the WiFi signal strength by going to Settings and then Technical Info. Additionally, please check the ambient temperature with a thermometer and take a photo of the thermometer next to the Nest thermostat to see the difference in readings.

To clarify the inconvenience regarding the thermostat not responding to instructions, it means that you're unable to control the thermostat from the app or the physical thermostat isn't responding when you select any option.

Please keep me posted, and if you have more details, please feel free to share them.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Thanks for your reply - I was able to fix the problem myself by restarting the thermostat! So simple, I would have thought that should be the first recommended by Nest when problems occur after changing the router.
