At night Nest thermostat drops to 70 and below and blows cold air

In the past several weeks, our Nest thermostat has been dropping the temp to below 70, sometimes reaching 68. With the temps being in the 40's at night, our apt is frigid.

We have reset the settings, played with dial and because we weren't shown how to use the Nest system, it has become frustrating for us all.

Right now the dial is indicating that in order for the temp to reach 72 degrees, it will take 2+ hrs and it's at 71. Our apt is only 976 square ft.

Other than calling maintenance, we are short on ideas. Please advise.

Best regards.

The  google nest learning thermostats make the determination on how long it will take to reach the setpoint you have put on the dial based on past performance of your system.

it uses the outdoor ambient temperature data it receives from the Internet to estimate the performance of the system. Basically, when it has not had enough data, such as it was recently reset to factory configuration, the default is two hours.
as the nest thermostat gets a better understanding on how well your HVAC system performs. It will be able to give you more accurate estimation of time.

it sounds to me like your system in your apartment is probably a heat pump and it sounds to me like it’s low on refrigerant charge and that’s why it’s not producing much heat.
