Hello! I am new to the community but not new to Nest. I had a thermostat and 3 smoke detectors as well as a doorbell at my previous home. We recently moved into a larger house which has two AC units. I installed Nest thermostats on both units and everything seems to be working fine.
Here in AZ this is the time of year the electric bills go sky high due to AC use. My main question to the experts... the home has a newer AC unit on one end and a much older (as in 25ish years) unit on the other side so is it possible to "sync" the thermostats to have the newer unit cool and the other unit only use the fan to pull the cold air from that side of the house? Such a setup would seemingly save some electricity since the old unit is no doubt much less efficient at cooling. I would think this would also reduce stress on the old unit so I can maybe get a few more years out of her.
I don't know that I would want this to always be the case... there are times I would probably want both units to cool the home, especially during the "blow down" period for a couple hours before the Time of Use restrictions start. Essentially from 3 - 6 pm all major appliances become NO TOUCH since the power rates go up exponentially.
This process would also be helpful in the winter as the newer unit has a gas furnace and the older one is an electric air handler. We don't need to fire up the heat too often in the desert but when we do I would rather use gas to do the heating.
Thanks in advance for any tips or tricks and sorry for such a long first post!

Nest thermostats are not designed to sync together as you want.

I thought so but still a bummer. Syncing like this or other ways to get Nest products to work together to improve efficiency or whatever would seem like a main feature of "smart" equipment. Maybe some day!

Thank you for the info Melba.
I suppose I could have the newer AC unit set to a lower temp during the cooling time so the old unit doesn't need to cycle on as much and would inherently pull some of the cooler air from the other side of the house anyways? I wish I knew more about mechanical HVAC systems!
