Aux heat is on even in 50 degree weather

Just started having issues with my Thermostat turning on aux heat, even with the temperature outside being above 30. Which is wear I have set.  Have not had this issue before. Just started this year.

Tonight, app shows outside temperature as 43 degrees and that agrees with hey google…..

However, while testing functionality using the thermostat itself, I tried to test cooling. It stated it would not perform the test because it is 25 degrees outside.

So what the thermostat thinks and what my app thinks are 2 different things. Checked address on line in application and it is correct.
How can I tell the Thermostat where it lives………?  I think it was updated sometime in the past 3 months.

Hi Moflounder,

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that your thermostat is incorrectly detecting the outside temperature or activating auxiliary heat when it shouldn't. Kindly follow these steps:

  1. Verify the correct location for your thermostat in the Nest app or on the thermostat itself. This helps the thermostat access accurate weather information for your area.
  2. Ensure a stable internet connection, as weak or intermittent connections can affect the thermostat's ability to update weather information accurately. Check the Wi-Fi signal strength in your location and consider restarting your router if needed.
    • Go to Settings > Technical Info > Power > Network then look for Wi-Fi.
    • The signal strength has a maximum value of 100. A signal strength of 75 is considered strong, while a value of 36 or lower is considered weak.
  3. Ensure your thermostat has the latest software and firmware updates installed. Check the Nest app or the Nest support website for updates.
    • Go to Settings > Software.
  4. If the issue still persists, perform a factory reset on your thermostat, ensuring all settings and configurations are erased.
    • Go to Settings > Reset > All Settings.

Let us know how that works.

Best,

Zoe

Update.  Nest was last updated in 2022.

This morning, Nest app says 42 degrees. Nest thermostat says 18 degrees. It is 42 out.

Greetings Zoe,

THANK YOU FOR RECOGNIZING MY ISSUE! Have been talking to tech support and they still do not understand the issue.🙄
With that said…..
Feedback on your suggestions.
Everything was good. So ………..

This morning it was way off. Reading 29 when it was 48 outside.
I decided to remove the nest Learning thermostat from my nest app.   I also reset the account  connection on the thermostat itself.  ( note: It then listed the correct zip code on the thermostat) with no account programmed. Must have still been there from initial installation years ago.
After that, I reprogrammed the account and added it back to my Nest Account.
At first, very disappointed with the reading still at 29. So had a cup of coffee. Frustrated…After about an hour, went back to reset everything AND GUESS WHAT!
It showed it was raining and 49 degrees which is exactly what it should have been. So far, knock on wood….. it has been tracking the weather channel for my area and the Nest app outdoor reading all day.

So Zoe… Thank you very much!!!!  So far so good. Will monitor all week to be sure.

FYI…It seemed to have been looking at Westminster, Colorado. Instead of Westminster, SC.
The temperatures matched.
Hopefully the software looks at zip code and not names….🤔 Google would not have changed that would they……..😳

Enjoy! Happy Holidays………
Best Regards,
Jon
