Battery is Low

mrelmo

A couple years ago I connected the C wire (I thought) today it says battery very low replace. If my C wire is connected it should not have a low battery right. When I look at connected wires it shows Y-W-G-R, also it says unable to test and nest power connector not detected   g.co/nest/m25. any thoughts

Hi @mrelmo,

I understand your frustration with the Nest thermostat. I apologize for the trouble you're experiencing. There are a couple of possibilities for why your Nest thermostat is showing a low battery warning even though you believe a C wire is connected. Let's troubleshoot:

C Wire Connection Verification:

  • Double-check the wires: Ensure the C wire is truly connected to both the thermostat and your HVAC system's control board. Look for a blue or common (C) labeled terminal on both ends.
  • Secure connection: Make sure the C wire is securely fastened in the terminals on both the thermostat and the control board. Loose connections can prevent proper power delivery.

App Information:

  • Unable to Test: The "unable to test" message might indicate the app can't verify the C wire connection remotely. This doesn't necessarily mean it's not connected physically.

Nest Power Connector:

  • Not detected: The message "Nest power connector not detected" suggests the app isn't recognizing a Nest Power Connector, which is an alternative way to provide consistent power besides a C wire. If you're not using a Power Connector, disregard this message.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  • Power Cycle: Turn off the power to your HVAC system at the breaker for 30 seconds, then turn it back on. This can sometimes reset the connection.
  • App refresh: Close the Nest app completely and relaunch it. This can refresh the information displayed.
  • "Not detected" or wires not detected (Nest Thermostat only):
    • Make sure your thermostat is set to Off mode.
    • On your Nest Thermostat, select Settings Equipment
    • Select Power Connector > Power test.
    • Wait for the power test to finish, and then select Done.
    • To confirm, select Settings Equipment Power Connector Power Status.
    • The screen should now read “Nest Power Connector Detected.”

If the issue persists to assist you better, we'll need some additional information. Here's the contact us form once you've completed the form, please let me know.

Best regards,

Brandon

I will follow your directions tomorrow and update you, I believe but not sure when I installed the nest there was no c-wire so in setup I just confirmed that I was using the white, green, yellow and red. So I think I need to go back in some how and reenter the wires that I am now using. Which would now be 5 wires.

OK upon further review I have a C-wire on the nest but nothing on the furnace, so I have to run a new 5 wire from the nest to the furnace, sorry for not having complete information. When I get this done I will post the results as of now thank you for the help up to this point.

Hi @mrelmo,

Thanks for letting me know that information.

Safety First: Make sure to turn off the power to your HVAC system before working with any electrical wiring.

Professional Help: Running new wires in your home can be complex, especially if you're unfamiliar with electrical work. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, consider hiring a pro electrician to ensure it's done safely and correctly.

I hope it works and if for some reason you're still getting the same issue you can use contact us form or let me know.

Best Regards,

Brandon.
