Battery needed to be charged for Nest Thermostat

JoelZ

Hi. I had to remove my thermostat last night and charge it on a USB charger. Is this normal? I have never had to do that before, and am wondering if there is something wrong with my device or is this just an occasional requirement. The device had completely shut down. After charging it overnight, the system is working once again as before.

Thanks.

Do you have a C wire connected?

Can you remove the Nest and take a pic of the wiring if you are not sure.

Also you can do the Settings, Equipment, Power Status test and let us know the Vin and Lin readings.

Hello folks,

I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Thank you for your assistance, @Houptee.

@JoelZ, I understand that it's confusing why it won't turn on since it only happened once. Situations such as an unstable Wi-Fi connection that drains the battery, any power issues that have gone unnoticed for a long time, or interference between the thermostat and your router are some of the possible causes. But I'd love to know more about this.

  • Please check your thermostat's power readouts under the Technical Info settings.
  • Check for any power reports under Equipment settings.
  • Remove the thermostat display from its base and check if any connector pins are bent.
  • Ensure that all wires are properly connected.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Regards,

Mark

It seems to be working ok now. I charged the unit. Still not sure why the battery would die when it is connected properly and constantly charging.
