Blinking red light and will power up

Nest thermostat has a blinking red light and will not power on. We left it for hours and it did not charge then boot up. We removed it from its base and charged it with a micro-usb charger for hours then returned it to its base with no change.

Is there anything else that can be done? Please advise.

Hi @Andre09,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest community. I'm sorry to hear that your Nest Thermostat has a blinking red light and is not powering on, but there's no need to worry; I'm happy to help you right now.

I'd like to ask you a few questions in order to gather more information about the concern and find the best way to fix the problem with the Nest Thermostat.

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • When did the issue start?
  • When was the Nest Thermostat installed?
  • What type of HVAC system do you have?
  • Are all the wires of your thermostat seated firmly in its terminals (with no loose or exposed wires)?
  • Can you please send me a picture of the Nest Thermostat wiring?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Best regards,

Gabriela

We have a third generation Google nest learning thermostat

the issue began last weekend

the thermostat was already installed when we moved into our home nearly four years ago

we have a split HVAC system

all of the wires are firmly seated in the system (I had a video call with a nest representative to go over this) however we do not have a ground wire

As mentioned above, we had a video call with a technician from Google Nest. The item is out of warranty. We attempted to charge the unit with a new micro USB cable but after many hours of the light blinking red it still will not take a charge and power up. Is there a way to have the unit repaired?

Hi @awoodert,

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate the case number. I see in the case that you just charged the Nest Thermostat for hours. I'm glad to continue helping you.

I need to verify some info to give you a better resolution.

  • Is the thermostat's display appropriately seated?
  • Are all the wires of your thermostat seated firmly in its terminals (with no loose or exposed wires)?
  • Can you please send me a picture of the Nest Thermostat wiring?
  • Do you see error codes on the app or Nest Thermostat screen?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Best regards,

Gabriela

The thermostat is seated completely as it has been since we moved into the home. All of the wires present are seated completely. The unit will not charge on the base or with a micro usb cable. When we attach either, there is a blinking red light and a blank screen.
