Boiler and pump keep coming on for hot water nest ignoring time settings.

I have a nest gen3 thermostat that has controlled heating and hot water for a couple of years no problem. We recently had a power cut and I re linked The stat with the heat link as its light was flashing. I have no issues with heating control but my boiler and pump are coming on every 20 to 30 minutes to top up the hot water tank temperature I presume. The hot water times are set on the nest app for twice a day early morning and tea time but being ignored. I have a heat only boiler and separate pump it’s almost as if this has a permanent live to it.

Thanks for reaching out to us @bullit509 . Thank you for all the information and I am sorry to hear you are facing this behavior from your device. First, let us try and just reset the water schedule. Go to the Nest app, select the hoyt water control and remove the schedule. Set it back up as you wish and then let me know if it still seems to be active outside the schedule.

Also, just to confirm, you only have a single green LED on the Heat Link currently, correct? And, do you have any water drop symbol at the bottom of the thermostats display? RIght under the set temperature. If you do, make sure to take a picture of it.

Hi there. I'm just following up on our last message. Do you still need our help? Keep us posted.

Yes please help. I have delinked the learning stat and the light is green also I cancelled all the time frames on hot water as suggested and reset. The heat link only shows a green light no indicator of hot water but the boiler and pump are on again. I think this could be dangerous as I have a Honeywell a plan and think the hot water tank is heating to boiler temperature now not 60 and the two port valve shuts down to the cylinder. I have taken photos. Please advise.

Regards Tony.

Thanks for letting me know, @bullit509

The indicators for hot water and heating from the Heat Link are turned on only in manual mode when the button on the Heat Link is pressed. Other than that, when the heating or hot water are started normally from the thermostat or app, you will be able to hear a click in the Heat Link. You can provide us with the pictures by attaching them to the thread so we can check on them.

I have managed to get the status light to blue on the heat link but still it ignores time frames on the app for hot water

Hey @bullit509. I want to double-check the issue with you. From what I understand, the hot water comes on at random times, but you also mentioned that it ignores your hot water schedule. Am I correct? If it comes on at random times, you can try disabling the bacteria prevention feature from Settings > Nest Sense. This feature will turn on your hot water from time to time to prevent harmful bacteria from developing.

I can see on the last photo that you had your water scheduled at 4:30 pm. Did it come on?
Can you see a difference in your hot water schedule between the app and the thermostat?

thanks for the messages. The problem has been solved and this reply may be useful to others.

I have a honeywell s plan heating system this comprises of two motorised caves, one controlling hot water to the cylinder and one to the radiators. The motorised valve to the hot water was faulty namely water had dropped on it shorting it into a permanently open state sending a signal to the boiler and pump to run. This was why the nest was being ignored sending boiler temperature water to the cylinder and heating it to 80 degrees as the motorised valve would not shut down and kill circulation.

i hope this may help others as it really was not a Nest fault but nest highlighted it.

Thanks Murray from a connected home our Nest pro.
