Boiler keeps switching on when the App shows everything is OFF

ChrisAgoston
Community Member

The boiler keeps switching on for a minute or so and then switching off.

The App on my phone shows heating and hot water is off.

The thermostat shows a little black water drop in an orange circle at the bottom.

I don't want the heating or the hot water to be on but it seems like it's got a mind of its own?

Any help very much appreciated.

Thanks for reaching out and sharing your experience. I'm sorry to hear that you're having troubles with your thermostat, but no worries — I'm here to assist you. From what you described it seems that one of the thermostat's features is on, and we're talking about Bacteria Prevention. In order to turn it off, please navigate on your Thermostat> Settings> Equipment> Continue> Choose Bacteria Prevention> Turn Bacteria Prevention on or off.

For more details about Bacteria Prevention please check out this article: https://goo.gle/3PeTr9y.

I believe this is fairly simple but I'm not an expert so forgive me if wrong. However combination boilers (possible other types too) have what is called a "preheat" function. it's usually switchable even if the water isn't being used it will try and keep a small tank topped up with warm or hot water so that when you turn your tap on hot water flows through faster, this means it will come on intermittently only for a few seconds to make sure it keeps it's heat in the expansion or preheated tank

Hope this helps

No worries Paul, you're doing great!

Indeed, based on the type of boiler, you can choose such a Preheat option to maintain a constant temperature in the water tank. This is usually applicable for the combi boilers as that type of system comes with this feature. When it comes to system boilers (with separate water tanks) we recommend to have the option for hot water on/off. Hopefully this information is useful.
