I've been using my Nest thermostat for several years with no problem until yesterday. The heating comes on and the radiators start to get warm with the pump going, then after a few minutes the boiler stops firing and the radiators don't get hot even though the thermostat is showing that they should still be heating up. If I push the button on the heat link to test the system manually the same thing happens. The radiators start to get warm then the boiler goes off.
Could this be a Nest issue? The boiler is only a year old.

Hi there and thanks for reaching our Community. I'm sorry to hear about your issue, but I'll do my best to help you out. Can you please tell me if you noticed a pattern or does the heating go off completely randomly?

Once on it never stays on for more than around 10 minutes, then it goes off for a while. Temperature wise it seems to be keeping the house at around 17-18C. My plumber, who hasn't checked things out yet, is now saying that it might be a sticky valve.

It is certainly possible for a valve to cause such behaviour.
Let's do some tests to see how the relays in the Heat Link behave. Go next to the Heat Link and open the Nest app on a mobile device:
1. Select your thermostat to access the heating controls and make sure the screen is black, heating is off.
2. Turn up the temperature until the display goes orange, heating on, and listen for a clicking noise.
3. Turn the temperature back down until the display is black again, heating off, and listen for a clicking noise again.
Let me know what the results are.

I can confirm that the heat link clicks when the thermostat is turned up, and clicks again when it is turned down.

That would indicate the thermostat is behaving as expected. The command from the app is sent to the server, from the server to the display and from the display to the Heat Link. As the heating is turned on and off the relay inside of the Heat Link makes an audible click. That generally indicates that something else is causing the behaviour.
However, since you mentioned it never stays on for more than 10 minutes let us also do this. Like before, go next to it and turn it on. Listen for the click and wait for the boiler to go off. At that point check in the Nest app if it still shows as on and make sure to listen for any click from the Heat Link.
If the boiler turns off and the thermostat shows as on and there's no click, at that point you can turn the temperature down to see if you get a click from the Heat Link, we can be pretty sure that something else and not the thermostat is causing the behaviour.

It's all resolved now thanks - the heating circuit valve was broken and has now been replaced so we have heat again :-).
Many thanks for your help @AlexD with diagnosing the issue.
