Brand new nest keeps shutting down for low battery

I purchased a new 3rd gen nest thermostat and it will only come on for a minute then display it needs to shut down to charge and shut back off.  It is connected to a c-wire and it has been installed for over 12 hours.  I even tried charging it with the USB and it will not stay on.

I've seen several issues with the nest not keeping a charge on the wall. My nest just started doing this. I have to charge it on a USB every day. I never had to charge it before on a USB. I've had it around a year. It stopped connecting to wifi about 6 mos ago and now it won't keep a charge. Hopefully someone can help us fix this!!

Hello jessrs6,

Thanks for posting here in the community forum. It sounds frustrating that your Nest Learning thermostat is not staying on after the installation. No worries. Let's see what I can do to get your device working smoothly again.

Verify the C-Wire Connection:

  • Double-check that the C-wire is securely inserted into the correct terminal on both the thermostat base and your HVAC system.
  • Ensure the C-wire connector on the base is fully pressed down.
  • Sometimes loose or improperly seated wires can cause charging issues.
  • Try to use a multi-meter to check if the wire is sending. The Nest thermostat uses a 24-volt circuit to give the system enough power to turn on and run.

If you have previously charged your thermostat, make sure that the period should be 2 hours to fully charge the device and that it has been connected directly from an outlet.

Check out this article: Troubleshoot when your thermostat won’t turn on. I know that with these steps, you will be able to isolate the situation.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Daniel.
