Since I'm new to Nest thermostats and also new to smart phones I'll having an awful time trying to understand how to change the thermostat's schedules. When we're away this winter I want to be able to set a constant 24 hour low temperature in the house before we leave, check the actual temperature remotely and make changes to the schedule if needed. I would find this MUCH easier if I could use my laptop. If a laptop can be used I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could walk me through the procedure to set that up.
Thank you.

Edward:
Thank you for checking back to see how I'm progressing.
Since I'm running out of time before we leave on vacation (when I want to be able to monitor and control the thermostat) I hired a tech guy to set up an Eco schedule which would test indefinitely holding a temp while we were away. Inasmuch as settings generally hold the temp for just 24 hours I won't know until this afternoon (i.e. more than 24 hours after the schedule was set) if it is working properly and I can rely on it to hold the low temp I set while we're away. If it does then I'll see if I can return the thermostat to the normal temp schedule. If so, then I'll feel I'm ready for the trip.

Emerson:
Thanks for keeping in touch.
I have notes regarding changing a preset which I believe will work from any location (not just from my house). It's academic now since I won't be away this winter as I had expected.
In summary, I wish I had never purchased the Nest thermostat. I found it extremely difficult to use and I haven't used any feature which wasn't available, and much simpler, on my old programmable thermostat. And, it ended up costing over $400 for purchase, installation, and hiring a tech person to help me.
The description of the product used the word "simple" numerous times but I found very little that was simple. I assume my experience was not typical.
But, even so, I appreciate the help you and the other members of the community provided.
