Hi All. I have my thermostat set up in the nest app on my android phone, but want to set it up in Google Home. I go to the app, select "add device", select "works with google", then the "Nest" icon...but then it asks me to sign into home.nest.com. It asks for a username and password, but I'm connected through my gmail account in windows - I don't have a separate password.
When I try my google email, I get "Your email or password may be incorrect. You can try again. If you've migrated your account or want to create a new one, sign in with google."
But, how do I sign in with google? Thanks.

It is asking you to enter the email and password you used to create your nest account. Google Home needs to log into your nest app account to add the thermostat.

Thanks for responding! Do you know where I might find this email? Both my Android and my Windows Nest logins show me signed in with google, using my google account. I don't see another email address.

Open your Nest App, tap the settings gear, tap account, or will show you the email registered.

Thanks again, but I've done that, and it's just my standard gmail account...the one Google Home doesn't seem to like.

Hello folks,
I'm chiming in to see how I can help.
Thanks for the help, @CoolingWizard.
@RobertBradley21, it appears that you have the Nest Learning Thermostat. With this, all you need to do is make sure that you're logged in with the correct email address associated with your thermostat. Once verified, try checking for other available structures where it might be connected. Check out this article on how to switch home structures.
Let me know how it goes.
Best,
Mark

Thanks Mark. The problem is, I can't seem to locate this mysterious Nest email address. I tried my gmail address, but it doesn't like that. Both my Nest account on my Windows PCs and the app on my Android phone are using the gmail account.

Hi RobertBradley21,
Thanks for letting me know. To be sure, could you please check the Nest App option on your actual thermostat's settings and let me know what they show?

Mark

Thanks again. When I click the "Nest App", I get "connected to a network". There's no other info.

Hi folks,
Thanks for the update. For you to be able to add your Nest Thermostat to the app you must have an Entry Key that you can find under the Nest app option on your thermostat. I suggest restarting your thermostat Account Connection before adding it to the app.
You can follow these steps:
I appreciate your help, @CoolingWizard and Mark.

Thanks for you help. I did that, but when I try to connect the device with Google Home ("works with Google), it again asks for an email address and password. I have no password, since I'm directly connected with Google, and when I enter my address and click "forgot password" I don't get an email.

Hi RobertBradley21,
Thanks for letting me know that. Did you recently delete your Nest account or have you received an email from Nest that asks you to confirm your account's deletion? Please double check your spam or promotions folder and junk mail.

Jenelyn

No, I've never deleted my account. Maybe I should try that and start over?

Hey RobertBradley21,
You don't have to delete your account. Some email domains may have an anti-spam feature that could block legitimate emails from Nest inadvertently. If you add account@nest.com to your allowlist, you should receive the verification email. If the issue persists after doing so, I will suggest contacting your ISP or email provider.
Thanks,
Jenelyn

So let me make sure that you’re still able to fully control your thermostat using the Nest app on your android device. If you can fully control your thermostat with your Nest app, we need to look at a software problem and in between the Nest app and the Google home app. This is not a problem with the thermostat or the software on the thermostat. This is a problem it’s in the back office software of the Google Home app, and its relationship to the Nest server.

Hi thanks, sorry for the late reply. Yes, the problem is between the Nest app and the Google Home App. Nest is logged in with google, and I see my gmail account at the top. But Google home requires some separate email to connect, and I have no idea what that is.
