Can’t get my nest connected

I’ve just unboxed my nest and the thermostat has alight on indicating it’s working but my main nest white dial control hasn’t got any light on so I can’t connect to the Wi-Fi as there’s no display am I overlooking something or how do you turn the white thermostat on….. any suggestions would be appreciated
