Can't install nest temperature sensor

I have a Nest learning thermostat.  We have a temperature gradient across our house so recently puchased  a Nest Temperature Sensor to install in my daughters bedroom which is always 2 or 3 degrees colder than the rest of the house.

When I try and install it via the Nest app, it says 'Waiting for a thermostat update' Before you can add a Nest Temperature Sensor your thermostat needs a software update. It its connected to the Wifi it should get the update soon.

The thermostat is connected to the Wifi and this message has now been showing for a week.

What can I do to expedite the process so I can add the sensor?

Have you tried calling their helpline? That’s next on my list to try. We are also out of ideas.

Hi folks,

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that you are all having difficulties connecting your Nest Temperature Sensor in the app. Are you located in North America or Europe? Follow these steps to troubleshoot (skip the ones you already did):

  1. Confirm that your Nest Learning Thermostat is connected to a Wi-Fi network and has a strong internet connection. The thermostat might not be able to receive updates in the event of a poor or intermittent connection.
  2. The wireless network of the house should be checked, and the signal should be within the range of the thermostat. A reasonable range is 1 to 15 meters, or between three and fifty feet.
  3. Restart your Nest Learning Thermostat by going to the device itself and looking for Settings > Restart. This helps to refresh the device’s connection and also makes it prompt for software updates.
  4. Make sure that your Nest Learning Thermostat's software is up-to-date. In order to check for updates, go to Settings > Technical Info > Software, then check for updates in the Nest Learning Thermostat. The thermostat may search for and download any available software updates if it is manually checked for updates.

Let us know how that works.

Best,

Zoe
