Can't see entry key for second phone

Pgaudit

I have set up a second phone which can be seen on Google Home. When I try and set up Nest on 2nd phone it says go to thermostat setting and find entry key. When I go to the correct screen on the thermostat it doesn't show me an entry key. It did show an entry key when I set up first phone. What am I doing wrong?

I have the same problem, set up successfully on my iPad, but won’t work on my new phone, my thermostat says, this thermostat is linked to an account….

That's what I got except tried to set up second on Android so looks like an issue across platforms.

Hello folks,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiries. I'd love to help.

Your thermostats are already linked to your accounts, you no longer need to add them to the app. Please ensure that you are logged in with the correct email address for your thermostats in the Nest app or in the Google Home app. If yes, check for any other available structures where your thermostats might be connected. Have a look at this guide on how to switch home structures and let us know if that helps.

Regards,

Mark

Hi I have linked the second phone my wife's,  to Nest using my Google account, and it now works. Only drawback is when I go out now the Nest thinks no one is home, and unlike previously when I could add my wife's phone to home and away, now I can't .

Hi Pgaudit,

Thanks for updating us on what you've done to have your concern rectified. With the Home/Away Assist, I'd suggest having it disabled so it wouldn't switch automatically to away status and switch to Eco mode. To do this, go to your thermostat's settings device itself and select "Home/Away", then "Stop using."

Please let me know if that helps.

Thanks,

Mark

Hello, isn't the home/away feature a key economising aspect of the product? Can you please explain what the difference between home/away and eco mode is.

Hey there,

Good question!

When your thermostat is in "Eco mode. To keep the home within the Eco Temperature range you've set to help you save energy, your system either calls for heat or cool. You can set this mode manually, along with the Heat and Cool modes. Please see this link to learn more about how it works.

It also uses the Eco Temperatures for Home and Away Assist to help save energy when no one is home. For more information, refer to Change Home/Away Assist Settings.

Please let me know if that helps.

Thanks,

Mark

Thankyou for your response so it seems to operate eco with two phones connected this has to be done manually effectively making automatic use of eco inoperable when someone leaves the house. Looks like a fault in the process to me and one Google needs to look at as more than one person wishing to use the app on their phone looks like a reasonable action.

Hello Pgaudit,

I understand your thoughts about this. By default, the Home/Away Assist feature is enabled. To avoid confusion, as two devices are already linked, please take a look at this article and let us know if you need more questions.

Thanks,

Mark

No I still can't see how to add a second phone with the app functionality of the first without giving the app the same log on details as the first. This means when the first phone leaves the house the thermostat assumes away mode

Hi Pgaudit,

Thanks for the response. Like Mark mentioned, once your Nest Thermostat is connected to an account, we no longer have an option to add another account. What we can do is add another home member to the home structure. You can click on this link to learn more about this.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi the issue is as far as I can see I can add someone in Google home who can control heating, but when the registered phone leaves the property the thermometer goes into eco mode.

Hi Pgaudit,

Thanks for the response. You can try setting up the presence sensing of your Nest Thermostat so it would try to detect the phone of other home members. You can click on this link to learn more about this.

Thanks,

Edward
