Can you exclude a temp sensor from the "Safety Temperatures" function?

We have five temperature sensors scattered about the house, including one in the garage. We live in a cold-weather climate and we keep items in the garage we don't want to freeze, so  we like being able to monitor the temperature. But when we added it, the Nest kept wanting to jack up the temperature. We'd notice it would get as high as 78 degrees in some rooms even when we had it set as low as 70.

We eventually realized the garage temperature sensor was triggering the Safety Temperatures feature -- in essence, the thermostat was trying to bring the temperature of our unheated garage up to 50 degrees. It would seem common-sensical to be able to exclude the sensor labeled "Garage" from this feature -- or at least offer the option. But I can't seem to find any way to exclude it or any other temperature sensor from being monitored by the Safety Temperatures feature.

Am I missing something, or will I simply have to choose between having Safety Temperatures activated or finding a different method of monitoring our garage temps in winter?

HI Brian_P,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

Another way to do it is to set a schedule for your thermostat on when to use a certain Temperature Sensor. For example, you can have your thermostat use your bedroom sensor during the Night and Morning, and use your living room sensor during the Midday and Evening.

I hope it helps,

Ryan

Thanks for your reply, but that doesn't resolve the underlying issue. The Safety Temperatures feature reads the temps from ALL the sensors, and if one of them falls below the safety threshold, the furnace kicks on until the sensor with the lowest reading is brought up to the "safety" temperature. That means I can either use this feature, or monitor the temperature in my garage with a Nest temp sensor, but not both.
