Cannot complete setup in Nest app

When I try to finish setup in the Nest app it keeps freezing up when it gets to enter the location of the thermostat. The app just freezes up and won’t let me pick the location in the house

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for the delay. Could you please try to reinstall your app then once you're in the setup process of choosing the location you want to add your device, wait for 5 minutes on the screen that froze. Let me know how it goes.

How come there’s no answers in this chat? I can’t connect my Nest connect the app freezes when I get to the page suggesting locations for the Nest connect. Absolutely maddening.

I finally got mine to work. When it froze on the screen where you pick location in the home I let it sit and about 10-15 minutes later it finally let me finish setup

Sometimes it works like that, for me it didn't.

Mine after waiting check mark on room came on . But still wouldn’t let me go forward?

Hello everyone,
I found the solution lots of customers are struggling at this moment:

1. First, you should log in through the Nest website.
2. Go to settings >> spaces
3. Set up the location
4. Attempt to finish up through apps

Hope this process makes you successful!

I did that with my Guard, and IT STILL FROZE!!! Now Google is the problem!

Good idea @Captainyoon. Unfortunately, even after setting the location from Website -> spaces, I still couldn't get through the app setup. Still freezes even though location is already set. Anything I missed?

There isn’t a spaces option in google nest account

Mine is doing then same thing. did you ever figure out how to fix it. I replaced my phone when it started.

 

I finally got mine to work.  When it froze on the pick a location screen I let it sit there for 10-15 minutes and it finally went and let me finish setup.  Been working fine ever since.

I was having the same problem - had to connect it to my 2.4 ghz wifi not my 5 ghz wifi. It was fine after that.

I'm having the exact same issue. 
I cannot get past this problem using any of the 2 workarounds listed in this post.

iOS is on the latest version as is the Nest app. I even updated the device to the latest separately. Still hangs on location.

Finally got past this. Here's how:

  1. Updated my phone and nest app to the latest version just to be safe. Also updated the device by setting up the internet connection directly from the device which checks for updates. Again, this is just to be on the latest and greatest versions of everything.
  2. Added the Nest app to the device.
  3. Added location and the app froze. 5-10 mins later I got a message saying "something went wrong"
  4. Went to the nest Website -> Spaces -> chose the device location
  5. Re-added the nest app to the device
  6. Location was already set. I had to select it again and the app froze again. 
  7. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Finally it succeeded and I was able to complete the setup.

Takeaways: Patience and persistence should be listed as materials needed to install. Keep trying over and over again until you can finally get past the location selector.  

Generally this nest product setup experience is TERRIBLE and support doesn't seem to care.

I just can’t with this!!!!! I’ve been trying for three days 😡

Here is what I did to get mine working after 2 months of trying.

delete nest app and reinstall

I had to create a new email. it would not let me connect with my original email?????

did a reset network settings on my iphone

reset Nest thermostat

pair the 2 phone and thermostat using the QR code

chose location ( this is where mine kept freezing so I thought) it took about 3 minutes then the app kicked back in and I was able to complete.

Having the same issue and have done all the so called fixes. It’s 88 outside and I have a dog and no air conditioning. Please help. Getting stuck , frozen on the nest app on room location.

I had the same problem. Reinstalled the app 2x. That did not work. Eventually i just waited it out.  Took 5 min

Just wait it out. It eventually works. It happened for all 4 of my nests. 

That’s not acceptable for a product that’s supposed to be the number one smart thermostat 

This was the fix thanks for the recommendation. Who knew just to wait it out UGH

been using Nest for years then Google buys it and it’s a mess. No Cust service, no tech support and a product that won’t work. Bought multiple units for a housing project. All going back. No more Nest for me.

End of August and I'm having the same issue with location freeze.  I've tried reinstalling both the app and resetting the device.  Still no fix or better suggestion as to how to resolve the issue??  If so, please let us know!   I have two nest, but it's taken most of the day to try and set up one.  

 

AFTER ME TRYING EVERYTHING:

so I was having the same issue with my thermostat…. after trying and trying day after day for about a months and a half…. I finally had my daughter in law who loves figuring out tech stuff….. she seen me breaking my head trying to fix it…..she asked if she can help.

after 5 long hours or more……. she was able to fix it for me. but she had to literally undo all my apps from my phone like Google nest Yale, google thermostat my google hub …….after resetting all of them back …… my system finally connected! thanks google….. for not helping us with our issues……. this thermostat almost ended up in the trash!

Just did the same thing. It would freeze at the location setting so I went through the whole setup again selected the hallway location let it set for several minutes and what do you know boom there it was. Who knew……Thanks for the recommendation that was the fix after a mind numbing  headache and several hours.
