Cannot get my 2nd Nest on my App

HarryBosch

I have had the 2nd Gen Nest Learning Thermostat for years. I just recently bought the Nest E for my garage. After installing it I was prompted to add it to my Google Home. I have it listed there but I was hoping that I would be able to have it in my Nest App as well. I have tried a few different things but it always defaults back to opening up Google Home.

Is there a way to have both Nests in my Nest App?

@HarryBosch

Some Google Nest thermostats can only be installed in the Google Home app and NOT in the Google Nest app. Those that are installed in the Google Nest app can also be viewed in the Google Home app, though the same functionality is not available there.

I can't find any online Google Nest Help topic that clearly explains which Google Nest thermostat models get installed where.

(We don't have a Nest thermostat, but the 2-app issue is pervasive; our two 2nd gen cameras work only in the Google Home app, so we've been using both apps for over three years.)

Hi @HarryBosch,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand you want to see and control your Nest Thermostat E from the Nest app. I'm happy to assist you with this.
Could you send a photo of your Nest Thermostat (the one that was added to the Google Home app) and a photo of the wiring to confirm the model?
In the meantime, let's check this tip:
Since you mentioned your Nest Thermostat is the E version, I'd like to confirm it's not the Nest Thermostat (2020) that you need to set up in the Nest app. In the article "Beginner's guide to the Nest thermostat", you'll notice a section that mentions the Nest Thermostat E and instructs you to install this device using the Nest app.

@MplsCustomer, thanks for your help, that's a great resource for everyone!
Let me know if you have more questions.

Regards,

Anders
