I have a 1st gen/2nd Gen learning thermostat. Last week the Nest App on my iPhone lost connectivity to the thermostat. Have done a factory reset and followed all other directions (deleted and reinstalled the Nest app, restarted my router, etc). The thermostat still won’t produce an entry key. I receive a note that says “There was a problem connecting to the service. Try again later”. I checked the network on the nest and that is working correctly during factory reset it also checked for software updates and the thermostat is up to date, im running out of options here.

We don't have a Nest thermostat, but Google Nest discontinued its support for 1st and 2nd gen thermostats on Oct. 25:
"So we made the difficult decision that starting October 25, 2025, Nest Learning Thermostat (1st gen, 2011), Nest Learning Thermostat (2nd gen, 2012), and Nest Learning Thermostat (2nd gen, Europe version, 2014) will no longer receive software updates. You will no longer be able to control them remotely from your phone or with Gogole Assistant, but can still adjust the temperature and modify schedules directly on the thermostat."

I’m taking the time to move away from the nest ecosystem. With EOL of my 3 thermostats and all protects expiring soon, nest seems like a shell of the product it was prior to google purchase

Sometimes older Nest models struggle to reconnect after a reset. You might try connecting through a different Wi-Fi band or temporary hotspot to force the key generation. I had a similar problem, and checking connectivity tools like Y999 helped me pinpoint where the link was failing.
