Clicking Thermostat when A/C is on.

Thermostat is constantly clicking when the A/C unit is running, sometimes it keeps the A/C running but nothing is cooling. I noticed tonight that my A/C was running super hard, and there was zero cold air coming from the unit. This happened last summer. Thought it was our old A/C unit so we had our home warranty replace it. Still did it even with the new A/C. So tonight, I walked over to turn off the system, and turn it back on. When I walked over I noticed the thermostat was clicking in the same rhythm as the A/C compressor was. What is going on? Any ideas would be helpful.
