Thermostat (AC only) worked and stopped with new system

We changed our air conditioner and we had an error code it needed power now. It was the same R/G/Y wires as before but wouldn't work. I changed to add a C wire. It ran for four hours and then said the C wasn't there. I checked the C wire and now it says the Y1 wire is a problem. It ran fine for a few hours but now says it can't with current wires. Do I need a new one?

Hi BernBrian,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Nest Thermostat. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • What is the power readings of your Nest Thermostat?

Also, if you haven't yet, you could try the steps on this link to isolate the issue.

Thanks,

Edward

It is an E. I ended up running another wire to the AC with a C wire. With the new wire, it now works. However, it is still quite annoying that it worked for some time, but with the new AC unit and the same wiring, it stopped until I ran a new wire. So it is working, just a pain to have to run the new wire.

Hi BernBrian,

Thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear that you were able to figure out what's causing it. I understand that having to run a new wire could be frustrating. Please observe it for now and let us know if anything comes up.

Thanks,

Edward
